With Father’s Day just around the bend, we are excited to hear about the memories that will be created, especially in our Bridges at Preston Crossings community in Gunter, TX. Do you have a tradition that you celebrate each year? One such tradition was shared with us by a dad and his two sons. From the time the boys were able to swing a golf club, their dad always made a special occasion out of them playing golf together on Father’s day. The boys still recall stories of sunny skies, rolling green hills, fresh air, lost balls, sand traps, and a few to many mulligans. These same boys now share this tradition with their children. How fortunate it is to live where you can step just outside your home and have the signature Bridges Golf Course available to create lasting memories. Hole in one for Dad!
Another great tradition shared by a daughter and her dad is how they spend each Father’s Day riding horses. A passion they both adore. A day absorbing nature, from the smell of blossoming trail trees to the exhilarating sound of horse’s hooves breaking into a run, creates a lasting bond between generations. A major benefit of living in North Texas land country is there is plenty of room for horses. The Bridges Equestrian Center provides the perfect location for the equestrian enthusiast offering miles of well groomed trails, boarding and lessons. We expect many more memories to be built from experiences at this brand new facility.
We want to hear your stories. Please share what makes Father’s Day special for you, in the comment section below.
Happy Father’s Day!

Blue sunny skies accompanied by the roar of WWII era airplanes flying overhead and the contagious laughter of children, were just a few of the day’s treats that made the 2011 Smiles Charity Concert and Festival in McKinney, TX an event celebrating the American spirit. With thousands in attendance over the Memorial Day weekend, this annual charity concert not only brings community together, it pays homage to our armed services and veterans.
Due to generous local and corporate businesses sponsors, the day was filled with family fun, local food and drinks, outstanding entertainment, and ooh – aah fireworks! From Hollie Cavanaugh’s moving performance of the National Anthem (yes she was a contestant on American Idol), to McKinney’s Mayor Brian Loughmiller riding a mechanical bull and Uncle Kracker’s get on your feet and dance performance, the event did not disappoint.
The greatest joy provided by Smiles Charity Concert and Operation Finally Home is that 100% of the profits from this annual event are then donated to build homes for disabled veterans and widows of fallen soldiers. This year’s recipients are Levi Wilson and Alan Hornaday. Bluegreen Communities is proud to be involved in this gifting and honoring of our American soldiers. They deserve our sincerest thanks.

It was a great day of family fun this past Saturday at The Bridges at Preston Crossings. More than 200 people attended our first annual Patriot Bass Fishing Tournament emceed by pro-angler Jimmy Houston to show their support for military servicemen and women. All of the proceeds from the tournament benefitted Operation FINALLY HOME, an organization which is currently building three homes for wounded war heroes at the Bridges.
A total of 335 fish were caught during the tournament with one little boy catching a whopping 31 fish! No one was able to reel in our prized Patriot Bass worth $1,500, but everyone enjoyed a great day at the beautiful Bridges’ Double M Lake.

This past Friday, the Bridges Golf Club played host to the Patriot Cup Golf Tournament benefitting Operation FINALLY HOME. Twenty five teams of participants and sponsors spent the day golfing on the charming, 18-hole Fred Couples Signature Golf Course. Guests enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day in Gunter with lunch on the veranda at Moms on the Green. Followed by a fun and lively raffle featuring items such as Titelist and Nike irons, a TV and rounds of golf at the Bridges Golf Club, it was a great day had by all to benefit a great cause!
All of the proceeds from this event benefit the Operation FINALLY HOME families whose homes are currently being built at The Bridges at Preston Crossings. The families to be honored include war heroes Sergeant First Class Alan Hornaday and his wife, Sheila, of Fordyce, Arkansas, Sergeant Levi Wilson, Jr. and his wife, Katie, of McKinney, Texas, as well as Army Specialist Hugo L.
